Dear accordionists,

spring in 2011 will invite music fans of accordion, promoters, talented young people, educators, activists and all  the enthusiasts of this great instrument to the International Accordion Competition in Vilnius. There will be also traditional National Lithuanian Accordion Competition for already ninth time.

This traditional event organized by the Lithuanian Accordion Association from 1994, invite a huge crowd of accordionists to the capital of Lithuania. Every other spring they have an excellent opportunity to demonstrate their mastery taking part in our competition.

Many of the competitors had a good start with this competition  for both artist career and teaching experience heights. We hope that in future for the majority of the accordionists the Lithuanian Accordion Competition also will be important for cooperation and creative plans implementation. As from 1994 it was national event with only one international category LAA organizing committee decided to organize an international competition in Vilnius in 2011. The Naational competition will be held in Vilnius as the selection to the international competition with the right to receive the National competition winner's name. This means that Republican competition  takes a higher step to the International Accordion Competition Vilnius 2011.

It is great to state that the accordion school in Lithuania is constantly changing, evolving and growing consistently. During the competition we have the opportunity to get know the accordion situation in Lithuania. Now we can evaluate the Lithuanian school in an international context.

In 2009 by the iniciative of the Lithuanian Accordion Association the compulsary piece for the international category "D"  was ordered. It is composers Ž. Martinaitytė piece "Ambiguities". It has been proposed as one of the compulsary pieces. This year for the international category "D" it is left as the main compulsary piece and the only Lithuanian composers piece, too.
For the concert performers category the list of compulsary  pieces is proposed on the basis of the experience and requirements in world's most prestigious competitions.

Competitors are grouped into 11 categories by the age and the chosen genre of the performance. We will hear the soloists and ensembles of various configurations, also the orchestras performing various genres of music.
The performances will be evaluated by the competent jury consisting of educators from a foreign countries.

This year competition has wide geography areas. We are expecting participants and Jury members from following countries: Finland, Russia, Denmark, Belarus, China, Estonia, Vietnam, Latvia, Poland, Ukraine, Slovenia, Italy, France and many Lithuanians.

We wish you the best  luck during the preparation for the competition. Also persistence at work and endurance for the participants and their teachers.
